I care about our planet, and all those who inhabit it.
I create with intention, using as many renewable
and recyclable materials as possible.
I strive to develop healthy habits that don’t contribute to the pollution of our water and our earth. It's a constant learning
process, and I try to adapt accordingly.
I try hard to use packaging that does not include plastic. For
the most part, I figured out the way to do it, with one exception,
for art and photograph prints. I use clear acid-free archival
poly bags for art and photographs.
There are a couple reasons for this: the bag provides protection for the art and matting both during shipment, and you have received your purchase. Without the bag, the matting may develop creases and get dirty, and the art or photograph may get scratched.
Another reason is that people often want to look at their art while they take the time to decide what they want to do with it. The
clear bag allows the art or photo to be seen in full.
I looked at alternative shipping/storage ideas, such as seaweed bags, but so far, I haven’t found anything that fits my current
need. Any material that touches the art or photo needs to be
made of a material that will not do damage to it, while also
fitting securely around the art or photo.
I hope that there will be something created that can replace poly bags soon. In the meantime, these bags are strong enough to be
re-purposed for storage of other photos, articles, recipes, paperwork, light objects and light clothing.
I pledge to do my best as a steward of the planet. While I know I don't have all the answers to the environmental crisis that impacts the planet every day, I will continue to do my best to find possible solutions in my own little world. Please send me a note if you have any suggestions for sustainable packaging.
A Love Note to Our Planet
Working Ethos
For Alex and Laura, planning ahead is a central component of sustainable design. Work begins with sketches of ideas before any clay is modeled. Fully conceptualizing and refining each design beforehand helps us to reduce material waste. We strive to work collaboratively at every stage. Our team efforts minimize energy usage in the studio.
Materials
Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, it is only right that our studio is stocked with only the finest local materials that haven't had to travel far to get to us. Our clay is as locally sourced as possible for every product. We ensure that the paint we use on our products is low-VOC and never washed into local waterways during production.
